My first week, I prepared the slopes, I pushed a lots of snow to cover the rocks and make the slopes as wide as I could. The pratice was probably the hardest because there was no snow at all... but it was good to do it for the racers, it is always hard to prepare a run for them because they always want the snow to be in perfect condition for training. But I always tried to do my best, after having worked with the biggest ski team in the world ( USA, Germany, France, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Japan...) I never heard those guys complaining for anything and that‘s why there are the best skiers, and they always understood even if I did my best the snow and the weather are not something I can change!
After have the trails ready, Daffi asked me if I could build something for the snowborders. First a terrain park is not only for snowborders but also skiers and anyone who wants to have fun!
I looked around and with the amount of snow we have, the valley was the only spot with enough snow to build something. So I start pushing and very quickly I found out there was a good possibilty to build the biggest terrain park in Iceland. After almost spent 200 hours of pushing snow the park is composed of:
In the begginer area, a little jump, a roll, and a little hip rolled over on top for safety reason.
In the big park, (this is what we can find in most of the park in America or Europe):
A little take off with a tyre in the back, so you can jump over it or touch it.
A hip with a pipe incorpored in the snow to slide on it or just jump over it.
A take off with a pipe at the end who is just flying above the landing to slide on it or you can use the take off as a normal jump.
Next to it, a big take off for a jump of about 27m...
At the end of the landing a kicker with a wood stick on top, the rule is to go the higgest you can and touch it and land sideways or on the kicker.
After this we have a jump line of 3 tables ( american style).
By the road and the tunnel a big air of about 35m, but I think you have to pratice on the jumps in the park before try it!!!
This is my last days, I have to go to Europe and build other things.. it was really interesting for me to be here, Daffi now is going to take care of the slopes and the park as he is use to. It‘s a busy guy because he has to be the snowcat operator, the ski area manager, the mechanic, the lifty etc.... so be patient he is doing his best for you I know it!
